I know finding the wrong one can be a very costly and unsafe decision. I know first-hand that hiring an electrician who was supposed to be qualified but ended up being a scam can really affect your project and your wallet. Below are some great tips to keep in mind when hiring electricians.

Tip 1: Do the particular electricians guarantee that their work will meet local & national electrical codes? When you hire an electrician it is wise to ask if they are educated on local and national electrical codes. Most States and localities require electricians to be licensed. Although licensing requirements vary from State to State, electricians usually must pass an examination that tests their knowledge of electrical theory, the National Electrical Code, and local and State electric and building codes. companies so they aren’t faked
2. Google Places- Type in a particular company into Google and see
if they have user-generated reviews for their places listing.
3. Service Magic- This website will prescreen contractors to be listed
in their database.

Tip 6: Do not pay your electricians in full until the job is completed and has passed inspections from a licensed inspector in your area. Be sure not to pay your electricians. This will help you because some contractors like to mysteriously disappear once they have all their money in hand. Set up an agreement with them to pay in thirds. One-third at the beginning, one-third at the middle of the project, and the final third once everything is finished. Most well-respected electricians will have no problem doing this as they know keeping you happy could mean a lifetime customer and referrer.

Steps I would take to find electricians:
Step 1: Search for genuine customer reviews (try Google Places.)
Step 2: Call Service Magic to help you or check out Angies List (greatly increases the chance of hiring electricians.
Step 3: Make a list of 3 possible candidates (must be licensed, must have good reviews, must have the capacity to handle your project and must provide a warranty.)
Step 4: Have each candidate provide you with a free estimate,
Step 5: After meeting with all three, knowing they meet your criteria, pick the contractor that gives the best price and passes your instinct test.
